Abstract

[Class 39 (i)] Electrons from a photo-electric surface are caused to return to the same surface under the influence of a transverse magnetic field and liberate secondary electrons, which are returned to the emitting surface in the same way. The Figure shows a flat cell between the poles of an electromagnet 4. Electrons emitted from the surface 1 return thereto under the influence of the electromagnet 4 and an anode 3. 2 is a collecting electrode between which and the electrode 1 is established an alternating field of such frequency as to reinforce the action of the magnetic field in withdrawing the electrons from and returning them to the electrode 1.
