Abstract
515,042. Catamenial tampons. ROBINSON & SONS, Ltd., and GILLIBRAND, C. G. March 17, 1938, No. 8317. [Class 81 (ii)] A catamenial tampon comprises one or more layers 1 of absorbent material such as cellulose wadding, cotton-wool, &c. closely rolled into a spiral to form a cylindrical pad, and a withdrawal cord 3 so attached to the pad that it embraces or makes contact with all the coils of the spiral. A strip 2 of gauze may be rolled up with the pad ; it is preferably much shorter and slightly narrower than the absorbent strip and situated near the outside of the spiral. The end of the coil may be stitched as shown at 5. The cord may be passed through and around the coil as shown in Fig. 2, or it may be looped or stitched diagonally around the material before rolling up, as shown in Fig. 4.
