[Class 81 (ii)] A catamenial appliance for internal use comprises a cylindrical or like plug a of cotton wool, cellulose, or like absorbent material having about its middle portion means preventing swelling on moistening. As shown the retention means comprises a perforated sheet b of cellulose acetate or like water-resistant material. Alternatively the plug may be bound by narrow rings, for example, of cellulose varnish, or a narrow band of similar material wound helically around it. The appliance is preferably conical at one end and the other end has a loop of thread or the like f threaded obliquely through it and drawn around the plug as at f<2> to provide a withdrawal string f.
