Abstract

568,042. Catamenial tampons. SMITH & NEPHEW, Ltd., T. J., LOVATT, S., and BURLEY, D. W. April 14, 1943, No. 6011. [Class 81 (ii)] A catamenial tampon is formed from an elongated strip 20 of cotton wool or other absorbent tissue disposed in an elongated sleeve 21 of openwork knitted or woven fabric with the ends 22 of the sleeve extending beyond the ends of the strip 20 ; the assembly is then doubled at the middle of its length and the overlapped ends 22 of the sleeve are doubled about a length or loop 23 of withdrawal cord and stitched to the overlapped ends of the strip ; the overlapped ends 22 may be doubled in as shown at 25 before being stitched. In a modification, the sleeve extends beyond one end only of the strip. The cord 23 may also be inserted after the doubled ends have been stitched. Specification 520,209 is referred to.
