535,916. Sanitary napkins. BURGESS, A. F. (International Cellucotton Products Co.). March 19, 1940, No: 5106. [Class 81 (ii)] A sanitary napkin includes as part of the absorbent filler a pad 12 composed of paper shreds, in a felted layer, which have been locally compressed so as to increase their capillary effect along desired lines. The pad is preferably covered by sheets of tissue paper 19, 21 and is enclosed with other material in a gauze cover B. The local compression may be effected by passing the layer from a feeding device between rolls 14, 15 having opposed teeth 16.
