[Class 81 (ii)] A sanitary napkin comprises an absorbent filler 1 partly enveloped by strips 59 of moisture repellent material which overlap on one face of the filler and have their opposed edges 5<SP>1</SP> spaced apart on the other face of the filler to provide a moisture channel between such edges. As shown the filler 1 is completely wrapped by a wrapper 3 of soft, tenuous, creped, absorbent tissue before application of the strips 5, which can be of one or more plies; a semi-repellent wrapper 7 is then applied to both sides and faces of the pad and overlapped on the side worn away from the body, a film 9 of cotton may be applied in the form of two strips arranged as the strips 5 and the napkin is finally encased in a gauze or similar covering 11. In making the napkin on an automatic machine, the absorbent tissue 5, one or more repellent plies 5 and the ply 7 are simultaneously wrapped and folded around the filler pad 1 and the strips 9 and covering 11 are subsequently wrapped and folded around the article.
