The inner pad of a sanitary napkin is formed of a number of layers of tissue such as crepe paper, 11 with a soft fluffy layer 14 on each outer face. Each fluff layer is enclosed in an individual wrapper 15 to assist in maintaining the shape of the pad and the whole is enclosed in an outer gauze wrapper 20. In order to prevent lateral seepage, strips 17 may be folded around the longitudinal edges of the pad.
