Abstract

774,793. Surgical dressings. ROBINSON & SON, Ltd. Nov. 10, 1954 [Nov. 10, 1953], No. 31045/53. Class 81(2) A sanitary towel &c. comprises an - absorbent pad 2, Fig. 3, wrapped in a cover 3 formed of a sheet 4, Fig. 6; of absorbent fibres, e.g. cotton or viscose or cellulose acetate, and bonded over the whole of its marginal areas and along spaced lines 5 of its central area. The central area forms the absorbent face 6 of the towel. The bonding agent of polyvinal chloride, acetate or butyrate, polyethylene, cellulose acetate or rubber cement is applied by a roller. The sheet is of sufficient length to provide end flaps for attachment purposes. In a modification, the cover is formed by a sheet having two equal sections, one bonded over the whole of its area and the other along spaced lines. The application of the bonding agent and the wrapping may be carried out in a continuous process, the sheet being cut between successive pads.
