Abstract

1,077,006. Diapers. ALEXANDER CARUS & SONS Ltd. May 11, 1964 [May 10, 1963], No. 18489/63. Heading A3V. Babies' disposable napkins each comprising a substantially waterproof backing layer, a permeable inner layer and an absorbent pad 3, secured between the layers and extending only over the crotchembracing area thereof, are cut with parallel sides of unequal length from a continuous web along e.g. lines 11 and the backing and inner layers are secured together by adhesive or by heat sealing along lines 10 adjacent the pad 3. The layers may also be heat sealed along further lines 10, and along lines 12 to form a hem through which elastic strands are threaded. In an alternative embodiment the non-parallel edges of the napkin are of S-shape. Suggested backing materials are polyethylene film or cellulose tissue coated with a thin layer of polyethylene; the inner layer may be of non-woven viscose fabric and absorbent pads may be bleached sulphite pulp.
