Abstract

1,217,402. Diapers for infants. MO OCH DOMSJO A.B. 27 Feb., 1968 [14 March, 1967], No. 9382/68. Heading A3V. [Also in Division B5] A disposable diaper, separable from a strip, has an absorbent pad 3 of cellulose fluff fibres, obtained by the mechanical disintegration of wood pulp in sheet or flash-dried form, enclosed between an impervious layer 1, e.g. of polyethylene film, and a pervious layer 2, e.g. of non- woven acetate rayon fibres or synthetic fibres or natural fibres impregnated or coated with synthetic resin. Preferably the fibres of the pervious layer are bonded at crossing points by a synthetic resin binder. The outside layers 1, 2 are bonded together, preferably by heat and pressure only, around the pad, either throughout the surrounding area or along predetermined lines only. The strip of diapers is produced by depositing the absorbent pads 14, Fig. 2, on a web 10 of the pervious material supported by an endless band 15 of stainless steel wire mesh, and covering them with a web 11 of the impervious material. A suction box 8 holds the materials in place. The layers are then passed through heated pressure rolls 19, 21, patterned so as to effect heat-sealing of the webs 10, 11 in the desired pattern around the pads 14. The composite web is scored or perforated for subsequent separation into individual diapers of the required shape, e.g. as shown in Fig. 1.
