Abstract

Catamenial napkins or tampons containing neomycin are made by applying a solution containing neomycin to a moving soft pulp sheet, drying the sheet, cutting the dry sheet to desired size, fluffing the sheet to form wadding and wrapping the wadding in a retaining layer of gauze. The neomycin used is in soluble form, e.g. neomycin sulphate or hydrochloride or a fatty acid such as neomycin laurate, palmitate or myristate. The solution is applied to the soft pulp, e.g. paper pulp, by spraying on both sides, rollers or passing through the neomycin solution.
