Abstract

608,774. Surgical bandages. JOHNSON & JOHNSON (GT. BRITAIN), Ltd. Dec. 17, 1945, No. 34178. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1944. [Class 81(ii)] A surgical dressing particularly for catamenial use, comprises an absorbent pad 1 and slivers 4, 5 of moisture repellant fibres covering the pad at the bottom and along its lateral edges respectively, said slivers being attenuated to different thicknesses so that those along the edges are thicker than that along the bottom. The three slivers are produced by being passed between pairs of rollers on a draw frame, Fig. 2 (not shown), sliver 4 passing between twice as many rollers as the slivers 5, so that it emerges thinner. The pad 1 and layers 2 of fluid-repellant crepe paper are enclosed in layers 3 of absorbent crepe tissue to facilitate manufacture of the entire article. 7 is a covering of gauze.
