Abstract
490,807. Sanitary napkins. BURGESS, A. F. (International Cellu-Cotton Products Co.) March 25, 1938, No. 9183. [Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group VII] In a machine for making sanitary napkins, a gauze containing strip 13 and two edge covering strips 17, are fed on to a continuously moving belt 11, whilst absorbent pads 14, of crÛped tissue paper, are placed in position at intervals by known means. The pads 14 pass under a blade 18 having inclined edges 23, which compress the edges of the pad, as shown in Fig. 5. Fixed guides 15, 16 wrap the gauze 13 round the pads 14, as indicated in Fig. 6. The presser blade 18 is adjustably supported by a slotted bracket 20 and by a spring 25 mounted on a slotted bracket 27. The pressure can be varied by means of weights 29.
