[Class 81 (ii)] [See also Group VII] Relates to a sanitary towel, or baby's napkin, of the kind in which a filling 5 of absorbent material, such as soft fibrous cotton or fluffy cellulosic material, is enclosed in a retaining jacket 6 composed of one or more sheets of soft paper. According to the invention, the top of the jacket 6 is divided into longitudinal permeable lanes 8 by means of impermeable ribs 9 in order to direct leakage of fluid longitudinally and away from the edges of the pad. The ribs 9 may be rulings, prints, or impregnations of wax or resin, and they are so arranged that there is a line along each edge of the filling.
