Abstract

748,247. Catamenial tampons. PERSONAL PRODUCTS CORPORATION. March 2, 1954 [March 2, 1953; March 2, 1953], No. 6129/54. Class 81(2). A tampon is so formed as to have negligible resistance to lateral bending, so that it will readily bend on insertion and thus more effectively prevent the escape of fluid. This object is achieved by having the absorbent material divided into transverse sections. Thus a length of material 11, may be compressed longitudinally to provide a zig-zag formation having folds 17 and crevices 18. Alternatively the length may be wound in spiral form, see Fig. 13 (not shown) or it may be arranged as a number of superimposed discs, see Fig. 12 (not shown). Each tampon may be made from two or more separate pieces of material joined only by the drawstring.
