Catamenial appliances consist of a gauze or like fabric 3 enclosing a number of layers 1 of cellulose or other soluble absorbent material, and other layers 4 which extend the full length of the gauze to enable the appliance to be secured to a belt or the like by pins or otherwise without the use of tapes. The extended layers may be of greater width than the shorter ones over which they are folded to form a wrapper. A set of short and extended layers may be arranged alternately.
