500,742. Catamenial and surgical tampons. SOUTHALLS (BIRMINGHAM), Ltd., BARCLAY, T., and EVANS, A. W. Sept. 3, 1937, No. 24095. [Class 81 (ii)] A catamenial or surgical tampon comprises a pad a of cotton-wool or like material, having one or more tapes or cords b secured to the ends thereof, and also, if desired, to the middle and at intermediate points, by stitching c., the pad being subsequently laterally folded and longitudinally and laterally compressed to cylindrical form. The tapes or cords b extend beyond . the tampon to facilitate withdrawal and preferably are enclosed between two layers of the material and overlap where they emerge, the other ends being spaced apart. The pad may contain an antiseptic and may have a gauze covering applied either before or after compressing.
