[Class 4] [Also in Group XXIV] , For transmitting power from an aero engine to one or more remotely disposed airscrews, an intermediate shaft or series of shafts is employed coupled by interengaging end members comprising respectively a parallel sided fork and a stirrup having a bar transverse to the shaft, each shaft being mounted in bearings adjacent to each end. In one form, a stirrup S is engaged by a fork F the end of which may be closed to prevent accidental disengagement. In modifications, the stirrup may' be open one side and the fork replaced by bending the appropriate shaft to open or closed rectangular form. The joint may be used to drive tractor or pusher airscrews from either a forwardly or rearwardly located engine through an appropriate number of intermediate shafts. In other forms, a tractor or pusher airscrew disposed above the fuselage is driven from an engine situated in the aircraft or three tractor airscrews are driven from a single engine. In a further form two oppositely rotating airscrews are driven one from each end of the engine: The joint facilitates rigging.
