[Class 71] In a fractionating high vacuum or condensation pump using organic operating fluids of a mixed character, such as the cascade diffusion pump described in Specification 473,978, the disadvantages which arise if the lowest vapour pressure constituents are delivered to the highest vacuum jet, e.g., 72, Fig. 1, are obviated by connecting the boiler compartment, which supplies the chamber B leading to the jet 72, to the boiler compartment of chamber D thus bye-passing the boiler compartment of chamber C. This chamber C thus receives the most phlegmatic portions of the mixed working fluid, the boiler compartment of chamber D being connected to that of chamber C.
