Abstract
514,758. Thermionic cathodes. M-0 VALVE CO., Ltd., and RANKIN, D. A. June 2, 1938, No. 16544. [Class 39 (i)] The filamentary cathode 1 of an electric discharge device is threaded through the gaps between two or more cross bars 3, 4, 5, of an insulating frame 2 and tensioned so that it is drawn against opposite sides of adjacent cross bars. In the Fig. the hair pin filament 1 is tensioned by a spring 6 at the light and pulled against the front of the bars 3 and 5 and the back of the bar 4. The side bars at the upper end of the mica frame 2 enter slots 7 in the mica plate 8. The limbs of a V or W or other shaped filament may be threaded in opposite senses. The bars are as small as is consistent with rigidity, and the frame need not be supported otherwise than by the filament. The Provisional Specification states that the frame may be rigidly secured to electrode supports or held within slots on grooves in an electrode. Specifications 372,758 and 477,787 are referred to.
