Abstract

531,076. Thermionic cathodes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES. Ltd.. and PARKER. P. May 26, 1939, No. 15708. [Class 39 (i)] A thermionic valve comprises a tensioned non- rigid tubular indirectlyheated cathode element with an insulated heater wire extending loosely through it. In the form shown, a number of tubular cathode elements C of copper coated with emissive material are disposed in a coplanar and parallel relation between two lavite end members E. The tensioning is effected by springs S seated in recesses in the member E with one end joined by a wire W to the cathode element. The other ends of the cathode elements are fixed by stalks or projections into the other member E, for instance as described in Specifications 523,460 and 530,300. Insulated hairpin heaters H are provided. Instead of individual springs, a single end bridge member may be attached to a spring or springs to tension all the elements. Examples of dimensions are given and the elements preferably have a length more than thirty times the smallest width dimension.
