Abstract
513,634. Electrodeposition of nickel. PARKER -WOLVERINE CO. March 4, 1938, No. 6755. Convention date, April 14, 1937. [Class 41] A nickel-depositing bath contains a soluble nickel salt, a soluble benzene disulphonte (e.g. nickel benzenedisulphonate) and a soluble zinc salt. Nickel benzene m-disulphonate may be used or the nickel, sodium or calcium salts of a technical mixture of benzenedisulphonic acids. The zinc salt may be formed in situ by dissolving metallic zinc in the acid bath. An example of a bath comprises nickel sulphate and chloride, boric acid, technical nickel benzenedisulphonate and zinc sulphate. The concentration of benzene disulphonate preferably corresponds to a concentration of 6-15 gms. per litre of nickel benzene disulphonate, and the concentration of zinc salt is 0.5 to 1.0 gm. per litre as metallic zinc. The pH of the bath is preferably 3.5 or less.
