Abstract
526,967. Electrodeposition of nickel. HOUDAILLE-HERSHEY CORPORATION. March 27, 1939, No. 9517. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1938. [Class 41] [Also in Group IV] A bath for the electrodeposition of lustrous nickel plate of limited image reflective powers less than those of " bright nickel " contains nickel plating salts and sodium formate, in the absence of formaldehyde and ammonium salts: Suitable proportions are hydrated nickel sulphate 240-300, hydrated nickel chloride 35-50, sodium formate 25-40, boric acid 25-40 grms. per litre. A pH range of 5.5-2.5 and temperature 90-190‹F. are suitable. A wetting agent in amount sufficient to lower the surface tension below 50 dynes per cm., e.g. 0.2 gms. per litre of lauryl sulphate, is added. Relative movement between cathode and solution is preferably effected.
