Abstract

513,622. Closures for jugs, bottles &c. PERSHALL, R. H. Feb. 11, 1938, No. 24435/39. Divided out of 513,520. [Classes 18, 66 and 125 (iii)] A dispensing closure 15 for jugs or bottles containing syrup, honey or powders has a base member secured to the jug &c. and ports in this base member form a pouring spout 18 and an air vent 32 ; a diametral flexible slide 50 in close shearing contact with the spout can close it. The slide 50 moves in a slot 58 and is operable by the depression of a spring controlled lever 24 on a pivot 64 in an extension 22 of the base member. An end lug 48 on the slide 50 engages in an opening 46 in the lever 24 which is pressed into the closed position by a spring 42. The end of the slide has a curve 66 flatter than the curve of the tip of the spout in order to shear the stream first at its edges and finally at the centre of the tip of the spout. The vent hole 32 is normally closed by a pointed lug 34 on the lever 24 while lugs 60, 61 retain the slide in the slot 58.
