Abstract

1,013,353. Pouring spouts for containers; container closures.SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Nov. 19, 1963 [Nov. 20, 1962; March 29, 1963], No. 45672/63. Headings B8D and B8T. A pouring spout is formed of a member 1 of polyethylene, which fits elastically over a bottle neck, and a cap 7 having an integral blade 9 of polystyrene, the cap 7 being rotated in order to cut-out a cover 3 closing a spout member 2. The cover 3 remains uncut below the cavity 10, which normally accommodates the blade 9, but may be torn away when the cap 7 is removed. A score line surrounds the cutout portion. In a modification, Figs. 7-11 (not shown), an annular portion round the spout base catches drips; and, as the cap is rotated, a cutter on the cap shears a peg to show that the bottle has been opened. The member 1 may be formed as a plug fitting into an end wall opening in a container, Fig. 11 (not shown). The cap and member 1 may be screwthreaded, a tamper-proof seal being formed integrally with the member 1, Figs. 12, 13 (not shown). In a further modification, Fig. 18, the spout-forming tube 2d is formed in a member 9d on the cap, which member acts as a cutter. A ramp 34 is cut out as the cap is rotated. By partially aligning the tube 2d with the cut opening, the container contents may be poured drop by drop. The blade may be formed of metal, Fig. 22 (not shown). The member 1 may be integral with the container wall, the container being of plastics, lead or tin.
