Pouring spout for container
The present invention relates to a pouring spout which can form part of a cap adaptable to a container of any material, glass, metal, plastic, etc., or else be provided at one end of the container itself when the latter. is relatively soft plastic or metal such as lead, tin etc.
The object of the invention is to ensure the absolute tightness of the spout on the sale of the product contained in the container, to give the consumer a simple and rapid means of opening it and of combining this means with a sealing cap intended for be used during the use of the product, the whole being carried out under conditions allowing a reduced cost price.
The spout according to the invention comprises a fixed member in relatively soft material, and intended to be carried by the container, this member being closed by an upper wall, a portion of which projecting obliquely upwards is thinned over at least part of its periphery eccentric with respect to the axis of this fixed member, and a movable member in relatively hard material, fitting elastically and coaxially on the fixed member and carrying an eccentric knife having at least one rectilinear edge parallel to the axis of the movable member, the lower end of which is placed directly above the lower part of this oblique portion of the wall,
The movable member serving as a shutter for the pouring spout after cutting this oblique wall portion by pivoting this knife.

Fig. 22 is a diametrical section of a hat carrying a metal blade.
Fig. 23 is a section similar to that of FIG. 6, the capsule being integral with the container made of plastic.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 to 6, the pouring spout is carried by a capsule 1 of relatively flexible material, such as polyethylene, capable of fitting elastically on the edge of the neck of a bottle, in a manner known per se. It has the shape of a cylindrical tube 2 closed, along an oblique plane, by a cover 3 having at its periphery a thinning line 4 and at its upper part a small tab 5.
Concentrically to the cylinder 2, the capsule 1 is closed by a transverse annular wall forming an integral part of the pipe 2 and the cover 3 which projects obliquely upwards. This transverse wall comprises a circular rib 6 forming a circular guide and on which a cap 7 elastically fits, the outer face of which has ribs 8.
Inside, the cap 7 carries an eccentric blade 9, the free end of which engages in the rest position in a small cavity 10 that the capsule 1 has at the base of the cap 3. The cap 7 and the blade 9 are molded in one piece from a relatively rigid material, such as impact polystyrene.
The container provided with the assembly 1-7 being, in the position of FIG. 2, hermetically sealed by the cap 3, to open it, it suffices to rotate the cap 7 on itself around its axis (fig. 4 and 5) so that the rigid blade 9, acting in the manner of a knife, cuts the thinned peripheral part 4 of the cover 3 except at its lowest point, the lower end of the blade 9 not reaching this point. As a result, at the end of the operation, the cover 3 no longer adheres to the cylinder 2 except by a small part of its base (fig. 6) from which it must be torn off by hand, which prevents it from falling accidentally. inside the container. From now on, the spout 2 does not have a lid and the container is no longer closed, when not in use, except by the cap 7.
Elements similar to those of the spout of FIGS. 1 to 6 have the same reference numbers followed by the letter a for figs. 7 to 10, from the letter b for fig. 11, the letter c for fig. 12 and 13 and the letter d for fig. 14 to 21.
In the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 7 to 10, the pouring spout is carried by a capsule 1a, of polyethylene for example, capable of fitting elastically on the edge of the neck of a bottle, in a manner known per se. It has the form of a cylindrical tube 2a open along a longitudinal zone 11 and terminated at the top by a funnel portion 12. At its base, this tube is connected to the frustoconical transverse annular wall 13 forming a bowl and closing off the capsule. This tubing is closed by a substantially cylindrical end piece 14 which connects with the internal wall of said tubing 2a in an oblique plane 15, this connection comprising at its periphery a thinning line 4a.
Concentrically to the cylindrical pipe 2a, the capsule 1a has the circular guide rib 6a on which the cap 7a with external ribs 8a fits elastically. This cap is molded in one piece, in a rigid plastic material such as high impact polystyrene, with an eccentric blade 9a which closes off in the rest position the open zone 11 of the cylindrical tube 2a.
This cap is furthermore provided with a base 16 disposed in a groove formed on the cap by an upper lip 17 of said cap. This upper lip is interrupted, as shown in FIG. 10, and the capsule in this interruption zone is integral with a stud 18. The base 16 is itself interrupted in the same zone, ending in the form of bevels 19 and 20.
The container provided with the assembly la-7a being, in the position of FIG. 7, hermetically sealed by the end piece 14, it suffices to open it by rotating the cap 7a on itself around its axis. The rigid blade 9a acting like a knife cuts the thinned part 4a of this tip at the same time as one or the other of the bevels 19 and 20, acting like a knife, cuts the stud 18 which ensured the inviolability of the closure of the bottle. At the end of the operation, after having removed the cap, the cut-out end piece 14 is removed and the spout is in the form of FIG. 9.
When the liquid is poured, it is directed by the funnel portion 12 and if, by straightening the bottle, drops tend to fall from this funnel portion they are collected by the bowl 13 which, by direct communication with the bottle, ensures the immediate discharge into it. This is particularly advantageous for a bottle containing a fatty liquid, such as oil, the spout ensuring in this case the maintenance of the cleanliness of the bottle.
In the embodiment of FIG. 11, the spout is similar to that of FIGS. 7 to 10. I1 differs only in that the capsule lb is provided with an outer circular rib 21. This capsule can be mounted on a container 22 made of any material, such as metal, cardboard or rigid plastic material. , this container being provided beforehand with an opening comprising a conical flanged edge 23 directed inwards. In this way, the passage of the rib 21 in the opening is effected thanks to the elasticity of its material and its tearing is made impossible due to the stop of this rib on the internal edge of the flanged edge 23. In this embodiment, the cap 7b has a generally cylindrical shape.
In the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 12 and
13, the spout and the cap are of the kind illustrated in FIG. 11. However, the pipe 2c is constituted by a cylinder on the internal wall of which the external face of the knife 9c rests, this pipe terminating in a complete funnel 12c.
In addition, the bearing rim 24 of the capsule on the container 22c comprises a radial tamper-evident projection 25 which protrudes from it and which has a relatively large angular development to allow the affixing of a guarantee inscription.
This projection is connected by a heel 26 to this flange 24. The base 16c of the cap is notched as illustrated in FIG. 13 to be applied on the internal part of the projection 25. This notch 27 comprises a central part surrounding the heel 26 and provided with an oblique wall 28.
In this embodiment, the circular rib 6c of the cap lc is provided on the outside with a thread 29 intended to engage with an internal thread formed inside the cap 7c. The cap is mounted on the cap by forcing it in the direction of arrow F, the cap of flexible material yielding in front of the tapping of the cap of rigid material, in order to have the notches 27 and 28 as illustrated in FIG. 13.
To use the container, the cap is unscrewed, which simultaneously ensures the cutting of the end piece 14c by the rigid blade 9c and the breaking of the heel 26 of the guarantee member along line 30.
In the embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 14 to 21, the capsule id no longer carries the cylindrical tubing. This 2d is integral with the rotating part 7d forming a sort of cap and is made in the knife 9d. Beyond the tubing 2d the knife has a sealing heel 29. The part 7d made of a relatively hard material fits elastically into a circular lip 30 made on the capsule id made of a relatively soft material.
This capsule id is closed by a transverse wall comprising an upper annular flat portion 31, serving to support it on the neck 32 of the container, and carrying a sealing stud 18d penetrating into a slot of the part 7d with cutting edges 19d and 20d . This capsule id further carries a lower flat portion 33 which penetrates into the container and on which the lower edge of the tube 2d bears. This flat portion 33 is connected to the flat portion 31 by a portion 34 forming an upward ramp and the edge 35 of which is thinned.
The heel 29 of the tubing knife in the non-operating position is applied to the bottom of a housing 36 arranged on the capsule between its horizontal walls 31 and 33. At the connection of the ramp 34 with the horizontal wall 31, the capsule is reinforced at 37 in the area where the edge of the knife arrives. Between this zone and the housing 36, the upper planar wall 31 has the shape of a sector of a circle and ends with a cylindrical part 38 centered on the axis common to the capsule and to the part 7d to serve as a pivot during the movement of this rotating part 7d.
To use this spout, the part 7d is rotated, thanks to the fins 39, 40 and 41 which it carries on its upper surface, in the direction of the arrow
O (fig. 20). The edge of the knife 9d guided by the cylindrical wall 42 cuts the ramp 34 along its thinning line 35 and at the same time flaps the lip thus cut inwards as illustrated in FIG. 16, so that the liquid can flow from the container according to the arrow f of this FIG. 16. This cutout can be made up to the moment when the edge abuts against the reinforcement 37.
When the part 7d pivots in the direction of the arrow F in FIG. 20, the spout releases the lip formed by the ramp 34 cut out on the periphery and comes to rest against the lower flat wall 33 on which it is held in the non-use position by a stud 43 projecting from this wall 33. The knife has a cylindrical outer shape matching that of the cylindrical portion 42 and rests on the cylindrical portion 38 such that no liquid leakage is possible despite the cutting of the ramp 34.
Such a pouring spout can be used in particular for containers containing liquids liable to be attacked by the air, such as vinegar for example. In addition, depending on the position occupied by the pipe 2d relative to the ramp 34 cut out peripherally, the flow can be carried out either dropwise or continuously.
In particular, as illustrated in FIG. 22, the knife instead of being integral with the cap 44 consists of a metal blade 45 inserted by its end with a retaining heel 46 in the plastic material during the molding of the cap. Likewise, the capsule 47 may be integral with the actual wall 48 of a container made of plastic material such as polyethylene or other similar material (FIG. 23).
Finally, in the case of an assembly without a tamper-evident stud, the base of the cap and the retaining lip of the capsule may be continuous to ensure total positive retention of this cap on this capsule.
