Abstract

983,151. Stoppers. OWENS-ILLINOIS GLASS CO. Feb. 23, 1961 [Feb. 23, 1960], No. 6645/61. Addition to 983,152. Heading B8T. A tamper-proof bottle closure comprises a cap 114 of resilient plastics material with internal ribs 118 adapted to engage projections on the neck 108, a sealing member 122 for the bottle connected to the cap 114 through a frangible section 123 and provided with an upward extension 121, and a cup-shaped rigid member 126 slidable on the member 121 and having a thin lower edge adapted to penetrate and sever the frangible section 123 to separate the sealing means 122 from the non-removable cap 114. The cap 114 and member 122 are preferably of polyethylene and the member 126 of polystyrene. The bottle neck is formed with ribs 111 which have sloping sides and sharp bottom edges beneath which the ribs 118 on the cap engage, when the cap is pushed on, to lock the cap in position. The sealing member 122 may be formed as a stopper so that the bottle may be reclosed after use; alternatively the sealing member may be flat and engage the bottle top through a sealing disc. The lower edge of the member 126 is formed with teeth to sever the frangible section 123.
