Abstract

512,363. Domestic firegrates; ash pans. BELL & CO., Ltd., A., and BELL, N. M. Aug. 11, 1938, No. 23673. [Class 126] In a domestic fireplace bottom comprising two side portions 10, 12 having channels or ducts 10a, 12a conducting air from openings in each side of the bottom to the rear parts of the spaces between the side portions 10, 12, and a centre portion 11, and a front brick 14 positioned across the front of the other three portions, the front brick has air inlet ducts 146 which communicate with an air space 13 below the centre portion 11. This centre portion may be a solid fireclay block or a metal grating, and may rest on ledges 10b, 12b cn the side parts, as shown, or may have feet to stand in the well. The ducts 14b lead into a central cavity 14c which opens into the air space 13. There may be auxiliary air channels 17 in the bottoms of the side members 10, 12. The metal grating, when used, may be upwardly bulged, and has a central aperture to receive a tool for lifting purposes. An ash pan has a lug extendingly from its front wall and correspondingly aperture for the same purpose. Specification 212,340, [Class 126], is referred to.
