[Class 126] In an open fireplace with a back of the kind comprising two upright fireclay slabs b separated by a central gap, and vertical rear and side walls e, f arranged behind the slabs to form side flues F communicating with the gap and with the chimney above, the rear and side walls are metallic plates which interlock with one another, and these metallic plates and the slabs rest directly on a metallic base-plate a which has substantially the same outline in plan as the structure formed by the vertical plates and the slabs, the base-plate having upwardly projecting lugs a<2> at its edges to locate the vertical plates and the slabs. A fireclay block d is arranged on the base-plate in the lower part of the gap between the slabs. Specifications 11187/08 and 183,055, [both in Class 126], are referred to.
