Abstract

498,230. Radiants for gas fires. MAIN, Ltd., R. & A., and WORTLEY, G. W. July 1, 1937, No. 18330. [Class 126] A tubular radiant with a reticulated front wall has on the inner face of its front wall and/or back wall one or more rows of projections 15, 20 extending along the length of the radiant, each projection being arcuate in contour in side elevation and having a base which is great in length compared with the height of the projection and a thickness which is comparatively small, so that the projection is of flattened shape. Figs. 5 and 6 show respectively the front and rear parts 10, 11 of the radiant which are formed separately from plastic fireclay and brought together before being baked. The projections 15 on the rear wall are integral with longitudinal ribs 12. The projections 20 on the front wall are inclined to one another. Small transverse ribs 21 are interposed between adjacent pairs of ribs 20. The back part 11 of the radiant has openings 13, 14. The rear face of the radiant has depressions 17 separated by ridges 18, and two ridges 19 extending across the radiant above the openings 14. These ridges 19 are shaped to make good contact with the firebrick back, so that air cannot flow past them up the back of the radiant but must pass through the apertures 14, into the interior of the radiant. The front and back walls of the radiant converge upwardly. Some dimensions are given. According to the Provisional Specification, an additional slot may be provided in the rear wall near the top.
