Abstract

512,126. Door-operating appliances. ROWLEY, Ltd., W., and SANEY, J. Feb. 7, 1939, No. 3952. [Class 65 (i)] In a door-operating appliance of the kind comprising a vertical spindle 14 connected to the door and adapted, when the door is opened to displace a thrust member under the action of a spring tending to close the door, one or two rocking levers 22 are interposed between the thrust member 18 and the spring or springs 32. In the form shown in plan in Fig. 1 for a double swing door, two levers and springs are used, and the fluid check cylinder 43 is formed as a bore in the thrust member. The spindle 14 actuates the member 18 through a pair of crank pins 16 engaging recesses 20 in the member, which carries rollers 25 engaging cam surfaces 26 on the levers 22. In another form, a single spring and lever are used, one of the rollers 25 moving over a curved surface on a fixed abutment. The check cylinder has an inlet valve 49 for the fluid and two ports 44, 47 through which the fluid escapes during the closing movement of the door. The port 44 is controlled by an adjustable needle valve 45.
