Abstract
281,472. Brown Bros. & Co., Ltd., and Wallace, W. Nov. 30, 1926. Liquid-pressure engines; machines and apparatus; presses, shock-preventing in. - In order to prevent a. hydraulic piston from violent contact with the cylinder ends or other stops, means are provided for gradually shutting off the supply towards the ends of one or both strokes; in the former case, the means shut off the exhaust for the other stroke. In one form, conduits 8, 9, Fig. 1, are provided with valves 4 having spaced grooves gradually diminishing in depth towards the closing ends of the valves, and adapted to be moved into closed position by tappets 16 on the piston rod acting through springs 14; when the motion of the piston is to be reversed, the appropriate valve is opened to permit exhaust by liquid from the supply acting through a pipe 10 or 11. In the other form, when a piston 19<\> Fig. 3, is on its down stroke, the supply is gradually closed by a similar valve 4; on the other stroke, the exhaust is closed by a valve 33 raised by a tappet 27.
