Aug. 10, 1920 Cam gears.-Internal-combustion and other engine valves are operated by means of a plunger a reciprocated in a cylinder b by a cam d and transmitting movement by means of liquid in a pipe j, to another plunger f conneted to the valve h. A valve l opens to admit liquid when a vacuum tends to form in the pipe, and a relief valve n opens when excessive pressure occurs in the pipe. The valve l may be opened by means of a lever r and rod p so as to put the engine valve out of action; or the relief valve may be lifted bv means of a screwed rod for the same purpose.
