Abstract

514,238. Door-operating appliances. NEWMAN & SONS, Ltd., W., and NEWMAN, H. G March 8, 1939, No. 7472. [Class 65 (i)] A floor-spring type of door-closer and check comprises a casing 1, a spindle 3 adapted to be rotated by the opening of the door, an arm 7 on the spindle, a lever or levers 11 pivoted in the casing and operable by the arm, a doorclosing spring 14 acting on the levers, a cam 6 on the spindle, and a fluid check having a reciprocable member 10 directly engaged by the cam, and held against the cam by a spring 20. The piston 16 of the check is fixed at its outer end to the casing and carries a relief valve, while the cylinder 10 carries an inlet valve and an escape port controlled by a needle valve.
