Abstract
510,069. Barrels. FIRESTONE TYRE & RUBBER CO., Ltd. Jan. 12, 1939, No. 1053. Convention date, March 18, 1938. [Class 21] In a metal barrel comprising a shell and a spaced lining, the ends of the shell form doublewalled chimes having reinforcing indentations in the inner and outer walls. The lining 10, which may be of stainless steel, is supported within the shell 11 by rings 17, insulating strips 18 being provided at the ends: The shell is extended to form the chimes 13 which are provided with indentations 15, 16. A bung opening is provided consisting of a liner 20, welded to the lining, and surrounded by a sput 21 welded to the liner 20 and to the shell. The barrel is also provided with two tap openings. The lower opening has a sput 23 welded to the shell and having a shoulder 23a over which the metal of the lining is spun. The upper opening has a sput 28 furnished with a flange 28a extending between the shell and the lining, a gasket 29 being provided.
