Abstract

509,213. Plate heat - exchangers; radiators for heating buildings. LUKACS, F. Oct. 17,1938, No. 29968. [Classes 64 (ii) and 64 (iii)] In a fluid heat-exchanger a number of horizontal concentric cylinders 2, 3, Fig. 1, are mounted in a casing 6, and joined at their alternate ends so as to form a corrugated partition. The two fluids enter at openings 11, 13 and leave at exits 12, 14. A baffle plate 17 inside the opening 13 directs the fluid streams between the cylinders. A number of heat exchangers may be used in series in combination with a heat storage vessel. The heat exchanger may be used in a hot water system and attached to a radiator 31, Fig. 3. Steam is passed through one compartment of the heat-exchanger 34 through pipes 38, 39. The water contained in the heat exchanger is heated and passes to the radiator through the pipe 32 and returns by the pipe 33. Two plug holes 41, 43 are arranged at different levels at the top of the radiator 31, and to fill the radiator water is introduced through the orifice 43 until it overflows from the orifice 41, which is then closed. Steam is then introduced into the heat exchanger until the maximum temperature is reached when the orifice 43 is closed, so that the interior of the radiator is at less than atmospheric pressure.
