1322392 Water heaters; tubular heat exchangers RYCROFT (CALORIFIERS) Ltd 19 April 1971 [16 Jan 1970] 2209/70 Headings F4A and F4S A water heater comprises a tank 1 with a plurality of U-tubes 6, 7 located in water heating space 5 and through which is circulated a heating fluid, baffle means 3, 22, 23 extending parallel with the tubes for directing cold water from an inlet 24 to pass over substantially the full lengths of the tubes to a hot water storage space 4, and a thermostat 25 for regulating the flow of heating fluid. The latter may be steam which enters an annular steam chest 18 through connection 17 and passes through the U-tubes 6, 7 to a chest 19 leading to a steam trap; drain ports 21 for condensate are provided between the steam chests or alternatively both chests may have steam traps. Alternatively hot water or oil may be used as the heating fluid and in this case the baffle 22 may be omitted and the cold water then enters at the bottom of the heater. The U-tubes are disposed in a circular array and each lies in an oblique plane, Fig. 2 (not shown). Cold water enters through inner baffle 23, rises upwardly between baffles 22, 23 and then passes downwardly between baffles 3, 22 to enter water storage space 4 having a hot water outlet 28. Thermostat 25 responds to the water temperature at three different flow points.
