509, 117. Valves closing with rush of fluid; valves combined with electric switches. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd., and DURANT, C E. Nov. 22, 1938, No. 33918. [Class 135] In valve mechanism of the type wherein the outlet port is closed automatically with rush of fluid, part of the valve chamber wall diverges towards the discharge port, while another part of uniform cross-section serves as a guide for the valve member. In the form shown, the valve member 14 is urged towards the open position by its own weight and is guided in the lower part of the chamber 11 by flutes 18. Release after closure may be effected (a) by means of a by-pass valve, B (Fig. 1), or (b) by a three-way valve B<1> (Fig. 3) wherein rotation of the plug 26 through 90‹ clockwise connects the supply side of the valve 14 with the atmosphere through the port 30 and at the same time cuts off the supply, or (c) by mechanical means extending through the casing. To give visual or aural warning upon closure, insulating washers and bushes 17, 23 17<1>, 23<1> and terminals 25, 25<1> may be provided so that an electric circuit may be completed through the valve member in its closed position to actuate a light or bell. Where the mechanism is not mounted vertically, the valve member may be spring-urged towards the open position.
