553,090. Actuation of switches; magnetic switches. CHANCE, BROS., Ltd., HALLETT, L. B. H., and BERTENSHAW. N. W. March 13, 1942, No. 3352. [Class 38 (v)] A float - operated switch is actuated at two spaced levels of a rising and falling liquid. A float chamber g has a depending pipe w, open at the lower level, and an air vent m covered by a non- return valve p. In the example the float d bears a magnet e and, on rise of level, the liquid also rises in the tube wand chamber g, air escaping from the vent, until the magnet is borne near enough to pole-pieces f to energize them to lift an armature bridge-contact b from liquid or other contacts a, to stop the m o t or driving a pump filling the container u. As liquid level falls, switch is kept open owing to closure of brake p preventing fall of level in chamber g until lower end of pipe w is exposed.
