Abstract
405,570. Centrifugal pumps. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland. Aug. 23, 1933, No. 23443. Convention date, May 2. [Class 110 (i).] A submersible set consisting of a pump a and motor b is housed in a bell e to which compressed air can be supplied under a control exercised by the liquid level in the bell. The air reservoir m is maintained at the appropriate pressure by a pump o driven by a motor p subject to control by a pressure operated switch r. A pipe n communicates between the bell e and the reservoir m, and includes a valve s. A time switch v controls the operation of the valve in accordance with the movement of the pointer of the ammeter u connected in circuit with the resistance x which is wound on a cylinder y of insulating material arranged within the bell. When the liquid rises in the bell e to a predetermined level, the ammeter u causes the operation of the time switch v and the valve s so that compressed air is supplied from the reservoir m to the bell e for a definite time. In a modification the time switch is omitted and the motor p is controlled by the ammeter u. The resistance x may comprise two or more portions differing in conductivity, or cross sectional area, or both.
