Abstract

755,694. Automatic liquid-level control systems. HERMORION. Ltd. Julv 29. 1954. No. 22145/54. Class 38 (4). [Also in Group XVII] In a packaging machine (see Group XVII), liquid is siphoned through a pipe 8 from a tank 6 which is filled through a pipe 14 connected to an electricallydriven feed pump or electromagnetically-operated valve 12, the circuit of the valve or pump including a switch 18 operated by a manometer 16 in the tank whereby the level of liquid therein is maintained withinthe limits 28 and 34. The tank is fitted with a riser pipe 20 open to atmosphere, and air may be admitted to the pipe 8 to break the siphon through an electromagnetically-operated valve 22 which is connected in circuit with the driving motor of the machine so that it is open when the machine is inoperative. When starting the machine, a switch 24 is closed to operate a relay 26 and start the feed pump or open the valve 12, whereby the liquid in the tank rises to the level 28. A switch 30 is then closed temporally to short-circuit the switch 18 so that further liquid is supplied to the tank until it reaches the level 32 in the riser pipe, thus starting the siphon. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the pipe 8 is connected to the bottom of the tank and fitted with an electromagnetically - operated, flow - control valve. Specifications 711,855, [Group XVII], and 711,882 are referred to.
