[Class 1 (ii)] Black or dark coloured sulphuric acid is bleached at a temperature between about 260‹ C. and 300‹ C. by being subjected to the action of sulphur trioxide either in the form of fuming sulphuric acid or as a gas. The treatment may be carried out in a tower provided with trays or acid-resisting packing such as quartzite. The gases or acid or both may be brought to the required temperature by any suitable means before admission to the bleach. ing apparatus.
