Abstract

Water-soluble azaporphin dyestuffs are made by treating an azaporphin containing one or more hydroxyalkylaminomethyl groups or a mixture of such azaporphins at a temperature between -10 DEG C. and +60 DEG C. with a sulphating agent. Sulphating agents specified are concentrated sulphuric acid, sulphuric acid monohydrate, up to 65% oleum and chlorsulphonic acid. The dyestuffs dye, pad or print cellulose materials in conjunction with alkaline and thermal treatments.
