Abstract
1 : 4 - bis - (21 : 41 : 61 - triethylanilino) - anthra - quinone is prepared by condensing one mol. of 1 : 4-diaminoanthraquinone with two mols. of 1-bromo-2 : 4 : 6-triethyl benzene. The product is subsequently sulphonated, to render it water soluble to produce a new and valuable dye in the anthraquinone acid wool dye class, particularly suitable for dyeing from neutral solutions. In an example, a mixture of 8 parts of 1 : 4-diaminoanthraquinone and 24 parts of 1-bromo-2 : 4 : 6-triethyl benzene are heated together in the presence of nitrobenzene, soda ash and cuprous chloride, the product treated with ethanol and the 1 : 4-bis-(21 : 41 : 61-trithylanilino)-anthraquinone so obtained sulphonated with a mixture of sulphuric acid and oleum.
