Abstract

The gases obtained by burning sulphur of more than 99 per cent purity are led through a filter at a temperature exceeding 500 DEG C. and are then oxidized by means of a catalyst comprising vanadium oxide, alkali oxide, and silica. The sulphuric acid may be condensed as described in Specification 406,116.
