Abstract

Sulphuric acid is produced by means of a vanadium catalyst applied to the siliceous carrier described in Specification 337,761, [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.] The usual purification involving complete cooling of the burner gases is dispensed with, and the gases are cooled only to the temperature required for the contact process. The plant comprises a pyrites or sulphur burner operating with dried air, a dry dust removing plant, a dry cooler reducing the temperature of the burner gas to the required degree, a catalyst chamber containing the aforesaid catalyst, and the usual condensing plant.
