Abstract
270,988. Petersen, H. Oct. 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Sulphuric acid.-To enable the sulphur dioxide gases containing excess of water to be used in the manufacture of sulphuric acid, the gases are passed through a tower containing concentrated sulphuric acid arranged in front of the plant. The necessary acid may be obtained from a suitable part of the plant but should not contain a high content of nitrogen oxides, and the resulting weak acid is sent to a point in the system where the water present is utilized. A portion only of the sulphur dioxide gases may be passed through the drying tower, the remainder going directly to the acid system.
