Abstract

296,662. Soc. GÚnÚrale MÚtallurgique de Hoboken, (Assignees of Petersen, H.). Sept. 3, 1927, [Convention date]. Sulphuric acid.-In the lead chamber process for making sulphuric acid, packed reaction towers are inserted between the separate chambers, and are irrigated with sulphuric acid rich in nitrogen oxides, or with a large amount of sulphuric acid containing nitrogen oxides such that the acid discharged from the towers still contains nitrogen oxides in amount at least equal to 0.5 per cent. calculated as nitric acid at 36‹ BÚ. The amount of nitrogen oxides contained in the discharged acid mav be equal to or higher than that contained in the introduced acid. The acid is introduced at a temperature not above 35‹ C. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that a reaction tower may be inserted between the Glover tower and the first chamber. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
