Abstract
508,161. Centrifugal gas - separators. GHIELMI, S. Sept. 19, 1938, No. 27249. [Class 23] Gaseous mixtures are divided into their constituents by the combined effect of centrifugal force and suction produced by apparatus having a munber of rotary impellers which increase in diameter from the inlet. In the form shown, three impellers 1, 0, 5 are employed and they may be rotated at the same or different speeds by the motor 12 through the gearing in the box 11. The impellers are housed in casings of appropriate diameter, and outlets 8, 9 are provided from the casings 4,. 6 which enclose the impellers 0, 5. Air enters by the series of slits 7, and as it passes through the apparatus the heavier oxygen particles tend to move to the periphery, while the lighter particles being affected more by suction than by centrifugal force, tend to move to the last impeller 5. The oxygen is therefore discharged through the outlet 8 and the remainder through the outlet 9.
