Abstract

534,042. Centrifugal machines. HOLMES & CO., Ltd., W. C., SYKES, W., and HOLMES, F. B. Oct. 12, 1939, No. 27745. [Class 23] Suspended particles are separated from gases by means of apparatus having rotors arranged in parallel in a casing, and each forming a cage with a peripheral wall of slats or blades 3 which extend in an inclined direction with respect to the periphery. These blades may be of the form described in Specification 514,320. Four rotors 2, 2a, 2b, 2c are arranged in each of two casings, and each casing is divided by a vertical screen 4 so that two rotors are on each side of the screen. The inlet main 5 has branches to conduct the flow to a point midway between each two rotors, and while the machine is working the suspended particles are thrown out and drop through the casing to the hopper 12. The clean gas passes through the rotors to axial discharge conduits 7. The discharge from each set of four rotors is combined in a conduit 8 leading to the discharge pipe 9 which is connected to the inlet of a fan. Corresponding rotors in the two casings are on a common shaft 11 supported in bearings 10 external to the casings.
